You heard of fish burger, double cheeseburger, ham burger, chicken burger…how about Ramly burger? Malaysians and most Singaporeans surely heard of it and even tasted it. Fellow Malaysians, if you never heard of Ramly burger before, don’t tell me you are a Malaysian. XD
I was in Penang and bought a “Ramly Burger Special” from this popular Ramly Burger stall known as Din Corner. A customer saw me taking photos at the stall and jokingly commented that I was from The Star (newspaper). XD
Steps on how to make a “Ramly Burger Special”. The patty is first wrapped in a thin layer of egg before stacking other ingredients like onions, margarine, cabbage, mayonnaise within the buns.
Din Corner is a neat and decent-looking stall located along the roadside, dunno which road but I know it is in Penang. =P
Speak so much of Ramly Burger and yet nearly forgot to take a pic of it to show how the end result looks like. Ignore the teeth impressions on the half-eaten burger! This burger tastes better than burgers from KFC, Mac and Burger King! Sedap!
Many Singaporeans like Ramly burgers but strangely, we could hardly see a Ramly stall in Singapore, except in pasar malams. I just read from Wikipedia that the import of Ramly Burger to Singapore is prohibited. Only frozen Ramly Burger patties are approved for sale, and yes, I see that in supermarkets in Singapore, and tempted to buy some. =D

Mei Wah

Tianhong
yes yes… but its soooo unhealthy, sooo oily… but guess can do it once a month or so :p
eunice
@่พ่พ~: LOL!! Yeah lah I know you Malaysian!! XD
@Meiwah: Right! To me, Ramly burger is supposed to be better than McD n KFC burgers but it depends on which Ramly stall is good! This shows why McDonald n KFC have successful franchising system; their food tastes the same everywhere! LOL!!
@Zara: I don’t have those ingredients at home now that’s why. Taste not bad lah, but I don’t think I will cook my version of begedil again. It’s oily! Fat fat.
Hmm.. I don’t know why I don’t see Ramly stalls in Singapore except in pasar malam, and usually those burgers are not nice. So, I can only eat Ramly burger in Malaysia. Sob sob.
@Tianhong: agree with you. It’s very oily.
dong ho
can somebody bring it to the philippines? hehehe… i think i really need to find it when i visit singapore. looks good. ill check the article about it in wikipedia.
those captions made me laugh.

I love this burger ! Very tasty !
For Singapore, we should see it during local pasar malam (translated as night market), always tempted to buy & eat a Ramly Burger everything I walked pass them.
Makes me hungry !

alex
wow that’s a new type of burger to me ^^
looks yum!
TNH
well…what to say..erm…thier burger really not bad even you compare with Mc D, Burger king and others..haha..i do eat sometimes but not frequently..if compare…i think i visit Mc D more than i eat Ramly burger..haha…why, because i hardly find one around my area..
Jenny
You’re making me hungry with those pics!
eunice
@JH: Somehow I don’t buy Ramly burger from pasar malam in Singapore. They are more expensive and don’t look good. =P I hope to see a proper stall selling Ramly burgers instead. ^^ But seems like it’s prohibited in Singapore, accordingly to Wiki. Strange.
@Dong ho: LOL! Try making one at home! =P
@Alex: Really? I think what makes it special is the patty is wrapped in a fried egg. It’s nice! Er.. you can try it at home? =P
@TNH: Right, we see more McD around. Not all Ramly stalls make tasty burgers. But the one at Din corner is nice.
@Jenny: I am hungry too. XD
edelweiza
your ramly burger looks delish…want some! ๐
peteformation
Wonder why it is prohibited from being sold in Spore?
eunice
@edelweiza: okok =D
@peteformation: No idea. That’s what I read about the controversy in wikipedia. It’s true that I don’t see any Ramly stall in Singapore, but in the recent years I see Ramly burgers sold in pasar malam only.
chris
WOW! Looks yum! So you just wrap it in egg but its still meat right? Like beef or lamb or pork? What kind of meat is it? And why’s it called RamLy?
eunice
@Chris: The patty can be beef, chicken, lamb (not sure), no pork cos it’s halal. I think Ramly is the name of the guy who created this burger. =D
chris
Wow thanks for the info eunice! Hope you get to post more stuff about food! ๐
lz
Wow? did you actually stood beside the stall to snap all these?
It’s really a good advertisement for him! XD
eunice
@chris: sure sure! XD There are more to come!
@Lz: Yeah man. But no one pays me for that. =(
Coolingsky
I’ve heard of Ramly burger before, but I’ve never tasted it before! =(
eunice
@coolingsky: oh but u live in Malaysia right? Doesn’t matter. XD
Bridge
Was there any beef burger on this one? I didn’t read any meat at all.. Haha! In the province where I live, I use to make burger without beef at all by using the heart of the banana tree, onions, salt, pepper, egg, and other ingredients. There are several ways to make burger actually. But yeah, I never heard of Ramley Burger before.
OH about the Liao… Yeah, I hope I used it the right way ๐
eunice
@Bridge: The patties are shown in the pics actually. They are thin slices of chicken meat. There are beef patties too. Ramly is highly customizable.
Yes u used liao correctly. LOL XD
dong ho
hahaha… ok. ill do. i really need to try this but im not sure it will taste the same.
lakshmi
being a veggie, my burgers are not that exotic..been to penang a long while ago and its a great place

@lakshmi: Then we will have veggie burgers! =D
Borneo Falcon
Ramly Burger definitely make some of the tastiest burger. Been a while now since I last see their stalls around
salingPUSA
why is the import of Ramly Burger to Singapore is prohibited Eunice?
eunice
@Borneo Falcon: Ha! yeah but depend on which Ramly stalls. Not all are nice.
@salingPUSA: Good question. I dunno! =P

chopinandmysaucepan
Hi Eunice, this is one of my fave burgers everytime I go to KL. Thanks for bringing back some memories.
James
Hi Eunice,
Lovely pictures. I bought a authentic Ramly Fish Burger from the Supermarket in Singapore & whipped up a burger for myself by pan frying the patty, adding some lettuce, two slices of tomato and some mayonnaisse, chilli sauce & a slight hint of BBQ sauce. It turned out delicious …..!!!
However the authentic Beef/Chicken only can get in Malaysia.
