Following the first day of eat, play, love aboard Legend of the Seas, the second day landed us in Kuala Lumpur (KL), the capital city of Malaysia. What I like about this cruise holiday – Isles of Southeast Asia Cruise 4 Nights – with Royal Caribbean is that we could join shore excursions at the Ports of Call in KL and Phuket, Thailand.
Legend of the Seas docked at Port Klang at 7am. We joined “Kuala Lumpur Light and Easy” tour (US$59/adult) that was scheduled to depart at 8am. We had to be back on the ship by 4:30pm.
From Port Klang to KL city centre, we bussed for less than 1.5hr in an air-con coach while the guide shared about the history, culture and interesting insights about KL. The journey was a breeze as we didn’t encounter heavy traffic; it was a public holiday.
Like many Singaporeans, I’ve been to the vibrant city countless time for sightseeing around KL city, shopping and good food. The National Monument? Nope, I saw the iconic landmark only on postcards. It was the first time I visited Tugu Negara, that’s what the National Monument literally translated in Malay. The famous monument commemorates those who died during World War II and the Malayan Emergency.
Next on our KL Light and Easy itinerary, we adjourned to the Merdeka Square aka the Independence Square. Step back in time to the British colonial era. Here you will find many historic architectures, from the old Municipal Buildings to the Royal Selangor Club and Sultan Abdul Samad Building. On August 31 in 1957, the country gained independence from the British rule and the Malayan flag was hoisted for the first time in history.
You can also find the world’s tallest 100m flagpole perched on the spot where the Malayan flag was flown on the independence day.

We had a photo stop opportunity at the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest in the world. I blogged about the Twin Towers before.
At the Twin Towers, you can shop in KLCC which features many luxurious boutiques. FYI, the food court in KLCC is pricey: A normal meal of rice with 3 side dishes can cost RM15!
I was surprised to see a huge Harrods bear at KLCC. I went to Harrods London in August.

We had to be aboard the cruise ship before 4:30pm. Thereafter, Legend of the Seas continued its sail along the Straits of Malacca to the next Port of Call – Phuket.
Cocktail dresses, killer heels, black suits and bow ties. It was Captain’s Night, and everyone dressed up like a star! Of course, the picture won’t be complete without the Captains!
I don’t know why it turned out to be like this. We were supposed to make stern faces… I failed!
We were all ready to satiate the rumbling stomach at Romeo & Juliet again! The ATAS food bloggers were filming for OMY. It was serious business at the table.
On the other table, “off-duty” bloggers were having fun cam-whoring and relishing sumptuous food and desserts again!
If there is any link between Alvin and Mona Lisa, it must be that subtle smile. This is the best shot I could get with Alvin smiling. Alvin may not smile like Darlie, but he is absolutely a nice and sincere guy. He is our guardian angel from OMY. I knew him since 2008 when I joined the OMY blog awards contest.
Food for your eyes only. You can expect yummilicious food everyday aboard Royal Caribbean cruise!
First time I tried escargot. The cheesy snail tasted like clam meat. It was good, though I only had one snail, ‘cos it was SNAIL.
Dessert-not-enough syndrome resurfaced.
More entertaining show each night at That’s Entertainment Theater Lounge. The performers were singing popular hits of the past years so well that you might think that the original artistes were on the stage.
