As seen in Chinese drama, “Huang Ah Ma” literally means “Royal Father” in Qing Dynasty. Does it sound like you get royal spa treatments? Decorated with red lanterns and wooden lattice screens, the dimly lit atmosphere filled with calming background music and sensual aroma seemingly takes us to the ancient world of the Orient.

Huang Ah Ma, The Oriental Spa Chamber uses bundles of bamboo chopsticks as a tool to execute the body massage in three primary movements – tapping, kneading and pressing on the acupuncture points. By the way, these are really not your ordinary chopsticks you eat with!

The therapist uses the bundles of chopsticks to tap the body to improve blood circulation and regulate the ‘Qi’ life energy that flows through the meridians of the body. Nothing like painful scrapping and beating with chopsticks! In fact, it’s milder than ‘Gua Sha’.

The therapist also applies massage oil on the skin before pressing with finger pressure to relieve stress for total relaxation, and rolls the chopsticks on the back in a kneading motion on acupuncture points to relieve muscular tension and increase blood flow around the massaged area.

At the end of the enjoyable 90-minute Imperial Chopsticks Massage, the combined movements of tapping, kneading and pressing by the experienced therapist are set to unwind the mind, detox and rejuvenate the body.
