Penang sightseeing

Wat Chayamangalaram temple is another popular tourist attraction in Penang. Built in 1845, the Thai Buddhist temple is popularly known as the Sleeping Buddha temple, as it houses one of the world’s largest reclining Buddha.

The 33-metre long reclining Buddha.

Just opposite the impressive Thai Buddhist temple is the grand and imposing Dhammikarama Burmese Temple. This magnificent temple is definitely worth a visit; I think it’s much bigger than Wat Chayamangalaram and there is a beautiful garden in the temple complex. The architecture of the temple is remarkable and it features rows of Buddha statues from around the world. A very “international” temple indeed!

The typical road scene:  we always drive along this main road with rows of old shophouses on both sides whenever we are in the old town area.

Passed by an abandoned dilapidated old school with rainbow across the sky.

Whose Alma mater?

Fascinated by the bi-colour orange blue sunset near the airport. It’s not photoshopped.

The twilight zone…

Next, more photos from Penang!

Changi Point Coastal Walk – Take Two!

Revisited Changi Point boardwalk to hone my photography skills with Pentax K-x during the golden hour again. Nice place with lesser crowd.

Whatever mood you called it.

Your shadow does not always follow you; you can conquer yourself.

Little flowers against the blue sky.

Dock and boats.

Apparently, a group of school children were drawing the sea and boats.

Drawings in the sand. A happy family illustration.

Bridal shoot at sunset.

Changi Sailing Club is also within the area.

Fascinated by the way this hardcore photographer handled his “combat” camera with camouflage pattern. Can shoot enemy!

Silhouette view of some sort… after the sunset.

Apparently, the two photographers engaged a sexy model in red for photography.

Just two days before full Moon. Taken with Pentax 50-200mm telephoto zoom lens. Should be better if the camera was mounted on the tripod.

Some like this blue moody scene.

Go fly kite!

First time to West Coast Park!

The “Play Centre in the West” is fun filled with activities like beach volleyball games and…

… kite flying! I was really surprised to see so many strikingly colourful kites of different forms and sizes flying high up against the blue sky.

Apparently, it’s not easy to control a parachute kite. Many times the “parachute” would just twist and turn, making it hard to fly the kite in the breeze.

Learn how to fly a kite like a pro! At least it’s a healthier pastime than playing computer games all day long!

In serious mood: the little boy was flying a big blue whale kite that nearly “dived” into the sea moments later!

A “bee” kite, I supposed!

Like an arrow (kite) graph with a negative slope moving upward positively.

Rainbow kite!

Rayfish kite!

On the field, kite flying becomes a serious business!

Another rainbow kite!

Spotted a red octopus kite!

Nature’s work of art: a glimpse of sunburst effect!

Silhouette of ships and structures during sunset.

How to go to West Coast Park by public transport?

From Jurong MRT station, take bus 176 (towards the east) at Jurong Regional Library bus stop.

From Clementi MRT station, take bus 175.

Pulau Pinang here I come!

It’s getting cheaper to travel! In the past, when we took a Super VIP coach from Singapore to Penang (aka Pulau Pinang) the cost of a ticket was about S$60. A return Super VIP coach ticket from Penang to Singapore cost about RM80 (~S$33). The 2-way coach travel summed up to be around S$100 without travel insurance.

Since the opening up of air routes to budget airlines between Malaysia and Singapore this year, it’s the first time we travelled by air to Malaysia. We compared a few budget airlines and thought Tigerairways was the cheapest to fly on our scheduled dates. The total cost of a 2-way ticket (including travel insurance plus taxes and admin fee) is only S$80. Though it’s merely S$20 difference, we save a great deal of precious time! You see, it requires an 8-hr journey ride from Singapore up north to Penang but only 1-hr of flight between these 2 destinations.

Photos taken in the Changi Airport’s Budget Terminal. It’s a small terminal but still comprises of an Internet Zone, souvenir shops and an open space cafeteria. I like the Dim Sum stall! The dim sum are tasty and selling at a reasonable price.

Up up and away! Admiring the cloud formations from the plane and snapped a few aerial pics.

fascinating-cloud-formation

Love the blue tones in the sky with clouds like cottons.

swirling-cloud-formation

It was past seven in the evening and the setting sun blazed like a diamond above the clouds. If the plane wing was not blocking, we could literally see the reflection of the sunbeams on the cloud surface.

The sparkling sun.

The plane flew out of the clouds and Penang island appeared.

Gonna update my holidays in Penang, Genting Highlands, Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh in the coming weeks!

Sentosa Beaches (Part 3/4)

Sentosa has three beaches, namely Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach and Tanjong Beach. We did not travel any further to Tanjong Beach for we passed Dolphin Lagoon. I’ve already covered Palawan Beach in my previous post.
Plenty of beach activities for the fun lovers. We just strolled along Siloso Beach, at the same time, taking photos with a heavy Canon DSLR that I had been carrying throughout the whole trip. =S

This pic with a row of colourful flags is now my current desktop wallpaper. ^^
