It is not your regular air-con supermarket with broad range of items displayed neatly on the shelves. You can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and live seafood from different vendors in this wet market which I think is called Ban-San market in Penang (Malaysia).
UNESCO World Heritage 2008: Georgetown
Added another UNESCO World Heritage site into my list of travelled places. Georgetown, the historic capital of Penang island, is listed by UNESCO in 2008 for its unique architectural and cultural townscape.
The City Hall colony building in white. It was a stormy day with huge waves hitting the wall. Fyi, the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami hit Penang in 2004.
The City Hall and the Old Town Hall are well-preserved British colonial buildings since 1903. It was drizzling, a bad weather for us to take any photo. Look at the puddles of water on the field.
Queen Victoria Clock Tower was presented to Penang by a local millionaire in 1897.
This semi-spherical sculpture is located next to the Clock Tower.
Kapitan Keling Mosque was built in the early 19th century and is the most prominent historic mosque in Read More
Randomly Penang
A not-so-nice panoramic shot of Penang island from Queensbay mall carpark. A dark and gloomy day, but like the misty mountain view.
Some random food pics to satisfy your sensual side. Penang Hokkien Mee is something I’d not miss. It’s actually a prawn noodle soup dish serves with egg, prawn and pork slices. One bowl of Hokkien Mee costs around RM2.50 – RM3.
The plate of Nasi Lemak costs RM7.50 (I think) as I had it at a cafe. See, you pay more for the ambience. Nasi Lemak is commonly prepared with the rice mainly soaked in coconut cream and steamed. Traditionally, it is served with slices of cucumber, deep fried crisy anchovies, roasted peanuts, egg and most importantly, hot spicy sauce (sambal).
You can get really nice and authentic Nasi Lemak nicely wrapped in banana leaf at the market for only RM1 without fried chicken.
A shot of the stage built for Hari Raya celebration at Queensbay Mall. “Hari Raya” is a Malay term literally means “Day of Celebration”, a Muslim festival celebrated worldwide after a month of fasting.
Cute, even the icon of the luxurious G-hotel wears a humongous songkok (a traditional hat for muslim men Read More
Penang Bridge
After a brief stop-over in Taiping Lake Gardens, we drove up to Penang island (Pulau Pinang). Yes, drove to the island, via Penang Bridge of course!
The magnificent Penang Bridge is the longest in Malaysia and one of the longest bridges in the world. The total length of the bridge is 13.5km, spanning 8.4km across the water. (Read about information on Penang at wikipedia.)
Crossing Penang Bridge to Penang island.
Nice scenery along Penang Bridge.
Appreciate the sea view from Penang island. SCROLL left-right for the panoramic view of Penang Bridge.
