“Let’s prepare for the worst, pray for the best.” Those are the words from the state governor of Louisiana.
Hurricane Gustav lashed the U.S Gulf coast on early Monday morning, moving toward New Orleans, the largest city of Louisiana. In 2005, Katrina, the costliest hurricane in the U.S history had claimed more than a thousand over deaths. While the affected areas have been going through post-disaster recovery for the past three years, another hurricane threatens the city again.

“There’s really no place to go. All the hotels are booked up to Little Rock and beyond,” he said. “We’re just hoping for the best.“ The resident of Louisiana thought about evacuating on Sunday but decided to ride out the storm at home.
“When the 911 calls start coming in, we’ll know how many people are left in town,” said police superintendent Warren Riley.

“I sent my son out with a camera and said, `Go take pictures of our backyard. Because it’s going to look different when we get back.’” said a resident who had left the danger zone with her family.

Two million people have fled the Gulf Coast ahead of Hurricane Gustav, the potentially dangerous storm could be as deadly as Hurricane Katrina… Let’s hope for the best.

Its quite scary to read about it..
@lakshmi: Yeah, another big natural disaster in 2008, sigh…
Yeah.. Was watchin the scenes all day on CNN.. Atleast they have prepared in advance for this ! This week , Here in India , in the state of Bihar , there is enormous flooding due to the overflow of a river and hundreds of villages are under water and hundreds have died !
Hope nothing of that sort happens in the US !
@KC: OMG! That’s terrible! Natural disaster can’t be avoided but safety precautions taken can lessen the harm.
i didn’t know abt this news..
Oh.. another natural disaster hitting New Orleans. I missed that place. Hope to go back there again.
I read about this from the news. The town can be totally empty during the hurricane. So scary.
@Lz: Ghost Town… just reminded me of the movie by Will Smith “I am Legend”.
@peteformation: I’ve never been there before, how’s it? Did you blog about it?
@Kikey: This news is now no longer new! =P
@Jasper: Yeah, hope that this one is not as strong as Katrina and with the evacuation done this time, risk goes down to the minimal.

I read about this in the newspaper this morning. When I read about catastrophes around the world, like the Tsunami, I always wish I could help in some way.
i hope they’ll be okay
@Forever HL: Hurricane = “Dragon spinning wind” in Mandarin =P
@Erica, Alex: Heard that the storm has weakened. Hope the condition is getting better now.
Now that they prepared for it, only a few casualties were reported. I am very glad that the effect of hurricane Gustav is not as severe as 3 years ago. I feel for our American friends…..
@salingPUSA: Yeah, that’s a good news to hear.
